Koh Phangan islands area of nearly 190 squarekilometers are mostly mountainous
and covered by jungle. About 15 kilometers away from Koh Samui the transfer by
boat or ferry takes under one hour. Most of the islands 10000 residents are
staying in the capital Thong Sala.

For a long time the main income from Koh Phangans inhabitants persisted in the
cultivation of coconuts on the south coast and fishing on the north coast. 
Originating during the mid-eighties and been made popular through tv coverage
the so called Full Moon Party takes place at Haad Rin Beach and is still
characterizing Koh Phangans nightlife.
